VILNIUS SHUTTLE container train

The container „Vilnius Shuttle“ train (Klaipeda-Vilnius-Klaipeda) is a project initiated by our company and its partners (AB “Lietuvos gelezinkeliai”, UAB “KLAIPEDOS KONTEINERIU TERMINALAS”, LKAB “Klaipedos Smelte”). The Lithuanian Logistics Association recognized this project as the best project of the year for achievements in the field of logistics in 2009.

Since October 2009, containers transported by the “Vilnius Shuttle” container block train reach Vilnius from the Port of Klaipeda quickly and safely now five times a week, and then goods are delivered to the customer’s door using road transport. Containers block train depart, from container terminals every working day. The transit time from Klaipeda to Vilnius is only 9 hours.

In addition to significant financial benefits, our customers enjoy other advantages of this project:

  • it saves time because goods are transported according to a strict schedule;
  • easy scheduling of container delivery for unloading;
  • simplified planning of warehouse work time;
  • ability to supply large volumes of goods and/or split the delivery over several days.

The train serves import and export flows. Since the beginning of the project, more than 70,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) have been transported.

Container train “Viking Train”
The “Viking Train” container train is a joint project of Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, port stevedoring companies and the Ports of Klaipeda, Odessa and Chernomorsk. This project provides conditions for connecting the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Due to the lack of transported cargo, the project does not have strictly defined departure schedules.
