VILNIUS SHUTTLE container train

The container Vilnius Shuttle train (Klaipeda-Vilnius-Klaipeda) is a project initiated by our company and its partners (AB “Lietuvos gelezinkeliai”, UAB “KLAIPEDOS KONTEINERIU TERMINALAS”, LKAB “Klaipedos Smelte”). The Lithuanian Logistics Association recognized this project as the best project of the year for achievements in the field of logistics in 2009.

Since October 2009, containers transported by the Vilnius Shuttle train reach Vilnius from the Port of Klaipeda quickly and safely twice a week, and then goods are delivered to the customer’s door using road transport.

In addition to significant financial benefits, our customers enjoy other advantages of this project:

  • it saves time because goods are transported according to a strict schedule;
  • easy scheduling of container delivery for unloading;
  • simplified planning of warehouse work time;
  • ability to supply large volumes of goods and/or split the delivery over several days.

Railway platforms with containers depart from container terminals every Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. The train is formed at Draugystė Railway Station, and it departs for Vilnius at 10 p.m. The transit time from Klaipeda to Vilnius is 9 hours. The train departs from Vilnius every Tuesday and Thursday.

The train serves import and export flows. Since the beginning of the project, more than 63,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) have been transported.

Container train “Viking Train”
The “Viking Train” container train is a joint project of Lithuanian, Belarusian and Ukrainian railways, port stevedoring companies and the Ports of Klaipeda, Odessa and Chernomorsk. This project provides conditions for connecting the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Due to the lack of transported cargo, the project does not have strictly defined departure schedules.
